Furthermore, in 2019, the Centre for International Migration and
Development (CIM), which is run jointly by GIZ and the German Federal
Employment Agency, placed 262 integrated experts and 515 returning

experts with local employers in our partner countries, or provided them
with financial support, advice or other services.*

Programme:

The transitional development assistance (TDA) project financed by the
German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
(BMZ) “Strengthening capacities for conflict resolution between
farmers and pastoralists in Central Nigeria” aims to establish the
conditions for a de-escalation of the violent conflicts in Plateau State
in Central Nigeria” (Plateau State).
Violent conflicts over access to land between (semi-)nomadic herders
and sedentary agrarian communities have escalated in recent years,
threatening the country’s security and stability. The project focuses on
the de-escalation and prevention of a further violent escalation of the
conflict. To this end, strategies and plans for fair access to land will be
developed, conflict resolution mechanisms established, and the
productivity of agricultural land use increased. The project has a
duration of 4 years (until 09/2023).
The project focuses on three components that are being developed
and implemented together with local and international partners:

  1. Enhancement of capacities of state and civil society actors in
    Plateau State to de-escalate resource conflicts between farmers
    and pastoralists.
  2. Create an environment where farmers and pastoralists are in a
    position to resume traditional trade and exchange relationships.
  3. Development of an impact and context monitoring that provides an
    informed and relevant decision-making basis for local decisionmakers and development cooperation projects for contextsensitive planning and implementation of activities.

Responsibilities & tasks:

A. Responsibilities
The Receptionist represents to all GIZ Jos office visitors, stakeholders,
partners, consultants, service providers and suppliers the first point of
contact, and provides the first impression of GIZ operations in Jos Plateau
State. The role of the position is to provide informed, friendly and
professionally communicated services to any person searching contact
with GIZ in Jos
B. Tasks
The Receptionist
▪ Meets, greets and transfers office visitors / service providers to
the responsible colleague
▪ Handles incoming phone calls effectively and with a professional,
friendly and firm style of communication

Provides administrative assistance in accordance to the team’s
regulations and generic queries of office visitors (e.g. providing
directions to the office, inform guards of arrival of visitors,…)
▪ Reviews on a weekly basis stocks of stationary, cleaning and
food supplies and prepares necessary procurement requests for
approval through the Supervisor and in cooperation with the
hospitality officers
▪ Supports daily regular office and project logistics, e.g. informs
Drivers of pick- ups, takes letters to the post office / hands over
to courier services
▪ Sets up and handles efficiently
o a booking system for the office’s meeting room
o a monthly information board displaying events related to
the project team’s activities
o a pigeon-hole system for a smooth communication of
hard copy documentation with the team
▪ Supports the office’s Administration Officer throughout the
procurement process to effectively handle preparation, order,
purchase and documentation of procurements in full accordance
to GIZ regulations
▪ Supports the Administration Officer as needed in performing
bank errands
▪ reliability and good organizational skills, appropriate appearance
and clothing
▪ Reports any damage to the office and its equipment with
immediate effect to the Administration Officer
▪ Ensures at all times a professional approach and conduct as well
as adherence to GIZ rules and regulations incl. health and safety
and represents GIZ values in all activities and behaviour
▪ Proactively suggests necessary changes, improvements and
initiatives in support to the common interest of sharing and
presenting a well-organized GIZ project office in Jos
▪ Carries out other tasks as assigned by the management and / or
direct supervisor

Qualifications
• National Diploma or its equivalent
Professional experience
▪ Min. 2 years of work experience in the service /
communication sector
▪ Work experience in a similar position in an international
company
Other knowledge, additional competences
▪ Motivation and passion to perform hospitality tasks
▪ Fluency in Hausa and / or Fulani

Speaks, writes, reads and understands basic English
▪ Reliable team player
▪ Highly prganised and self-reliant
▪ Eye for detaisl
